Our Featured Pet...
Our featured pet is Pounce, Pounce was abandoned in a box outside our door with her sister. Being the agile cats they are, they got out of the box. We found Pounce 3 days later, hiding under a car. We have yet to find her sister. She is 5 years old, and is taking all of this pretty well. She would love a family that will let her curl up on a nice soft chair for a nice long nap after a some fun play time br> Can't adopt her now, but want to help? Mississippi is one of eight states where animal cruelty is not a felony under any circumstances. Supporters of a bill pending before the Mississippi legislature hope to change that.
House Bill 1188 and Senate Bill 2816, also known as Buddy’s Law, would make it a felony in Mississippi to “knowingly torture, mutilate, maim, burn, poison or maliciously starve, disfigure or kill any animal”. The maximum punishment would be a $5,000 fine and imprisonment for five years.
Significantly, a person convicted of animal cruelty could be barred from possessing animals or even living or working where there are animals. The new law would also provide for counseling for convicted abusers.
The new law is named for Buddy, a 16 week old black lab puppy tortured and left for dead at a gas station. A man who stopped to put air in his tire found the little dog still whimpering. The puppy’s eyes, nose, ears and throat had been filled with PVC glue. The dog, named Buddy, was euthanized.

We need volunteers!! If you would like to help us take care of our pets and building in any way, please come by and fill out a volunteer form. We are always in need of volunteers to help clean, do paperwork, socialize dogs and cats, bathe and groom pets and help with adoption days. We are also looking for foster homes, we need help in housetraining and basic obedience. This makes the dogs much more adoptable and helps them find homes much quicker. You must have verifyable vet referances, and willing to open your home to a dog in need. We cover any medical expenses for the dog, and can supply food if needed. Some of our cats will be at the Petsmart on Winchester for the month of January... We need volunteers that would be willing to help care for the cats while they are at Petsmart. Can you spare 1-2 hours, one or may days a week.? it can be in the morning when the store opens or evening after work. No time?...then just stop by and see them.

Who We Are
We are a non -profit group of volunteers dedicated to help homeless animals in Desoto County. We are a 501C group which allows your donations to be tax deductable. We spay and neuter all of the dogs and cats that come through our group before they leave us for new homes. We also are involved in community outreach to help educate the community on the importance of vaccinating, spaying and neutering their pets. Our new facility has been named the Animal Haven, we wanted a name that would reflect a safe harbor for the animals that we were saving from death row shelters as well as a welcoming name for visitors to feel comfortable coming to view the animals. The public can feel comfortable knowing that this is not a depressing shelter but a happy temporary home for these pets until a new permanent family can be found for them.
Adopting a friend
Our adoption fee is $100.00 for dogs and $85.00 for cats. This includes the spay/neuter which will be done before any animal leaves us. It also includes the heartworm test(dogs), Feline Leuk /FIV test(cats), rabies (if over 4 months), and 7in1 (dogs), bordatella(dogs) 4in1 (cats), also they have been wormed, and treated for fleas if needed. We are now microchipping all of our pets. You can see that the adoption fee is not very high when you start comparing what all the medical costs would be at the vets.

Our new building is located at 7140 Hwy 178. We are open every Tues., Thurs. and Fri. from 4:30 pm- 6:30 pm and Sat. from 12 -4pm. We hope to be open more during the week as soon as we can get enough volunteers.
